PinUp Girls

Devil-80px As the name implies, a vintage pin up girl was a woman whose physical beauty and attractiveness would entice one to place her picture on a wall. The term was first used in English in 1941, however the practice is documented as going back at least to the 1890s.
One of the most popular early pin up girls was Betty Grable, a poster of whom was ubiquitous in the lockers of GIs during World War II.

June Haver (June 10, 1926 – July 4, 2005), was an American film actress, who was born in Rock Island, Illinois as Beverly Jane Stovenour. “June” was her nickname and her surname became “Haver” when her mother divorced and remarried. She is most well-known as a popular star of 20th Century-Fox musicals in the late 1940s, most notably The Dolly Sisters, with Betty Grable. She is also often linked to her second husband, actor Fred MacMurray.

In the U.S., Veterans Day began as Armistice Day, commemorating the end of World War I. The so-called War to End All Wars ended with an armistice signed at 11 a.m. on November 11, 1918, in Compiègne, France—the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. In the U.S., President Woodrow Wilson commemorated the first Armistice Day in 1919. It was made a national holiday via an act of Congress in 1938.
