During the long, lonely days of World War II, sweet and sexy beauties did their part for America by posing in sassy and often humorous pin-up calendars. These calendar girls, as they came to be known, motivated servicemen worldwide, reminding them of the sweet-smelling safe haven of home. When the men came home after the war, the demand for these calendars continued to grow well into the 1950s.

These skilfully illustrated girls with their curvaceous forms and inviting lingerie soon overtook America’s national dessert, in terms of popularity, and even developed considerable potential as a cultural export during the 1940s. Smiling prettily at the camera, the models exuded just the right amount of sex appeal without seeming too sophisticated or artful.

If you are one of the ever growing army of fans of pinup photography then this magazine is definately for you. I just received my copy of issue #1 and I gotta admit, Im really impressed. The models are gorgeous and the photography and backdrops are just as beautiful. This issue has over 80 pages of pinups reminesent of the glamour photography of the 1940′ and 50′s. Just so there is no confusion, these images are all very tastefully done, no nudity, but there is good bit of naughty!

From the time Esquire first introduced America to the Varga Girl, in 1940, the name Vargas has been synonymous with pin-up and glamour art. In fact, the word vargas has actually been applied to almost every kind of pin-up subject, a fitting tribute to the most famous and prolific glamour artist of all time.

Virginia “Ding Dong” Bell (born 1932 in Montrose, California) is a topless model and actress. She started her career in the 1950s as a burlesque dancer. Virginia had one starring role in a feature film, Bell, Bare and Beautiful (1963), which was the product of legendary sexploitation team of Herschell Gordon Lewis and David Friedman. In it, Virginia plays a burlesque dancer pursued by Lewis regular Thomas Wood. But his attempts at finding true love with the “girl of his dreams” are thwarted by her gangster boyfriend (played by David Friedman). Wood gets around this speedbump by tracking Virginia down at the nudist camp she frequents, which is where at least half the film takes place.
